In the wake of Yolanda, after immediate relief has been distributed around, the team composed of a group of young professionals, came together to give more time, effort and energy to the people in Leyte.
A year has passed but the rebuilding continues. The group pulled together more resources, skills, and volunteers to extend its activities to more schools not just in Leyte but also in Samar. Again, many thanks to our generous donors and friends!
The group built a library cart in Manila and flew it using a C-130 to Leyte where an Elementary School heavily affected by Yolanda awaited them. In the school, the group decorated and filled the library cart with books from our generous donors.
The group brought their A-game to entertain and make the kids of Cabuynan smile with their creative interpretation of various well-loved stories. Afterwards, the group tried to process the kids’ experiences during the calamity to aid in their recovery.
Taking up last year’s mobile library effort a notch higher, the group channeled their creative spirits to tidy up and beautify the library of Cabuynan Elementary School.
The group organized a resiliency and leadership seminar among high school students in Guian National High School. It was an afternoon filled with fun, sharing and learning for both the students and the facilitators. The facilitators were in awe with their resilience, maturity and wisdom amidst the horrible calamity.
The group also spent an afternoon with some teachers sharing some basic Word, Excel and Powerpoint shortcuts and whatnots to facilitate and level-up their awesome teaching skills.
The team also did their share in restoring the environment by planting some mangrove trees and cleaning-up the beach.
